Human foods your cat should eat or avoid!!!

We love all different types of pets here at Lucky Paws Pet Store! Here is an interesting article you may find interesting if you have a cat or kitten to keep your pet healthy.


Definitely NOT

Garlic/onions
Should my cat eat garlic or raw onions? NO WAY!
Its not a good idea for cats to eat raw onions or raw garlic. Even if they are cooked its still not safe. The reason for this because garlic and onions contain Sulfoxides and Disulphides can be poison for your pet by breaking down red blood cells, this can cause anemia, lethargic, weight loss and also gastrointestinal issues.
Raw eggs
Can i feed my pet raw eggs? NO WAY!
Us humans don't eat raw eggs so should your pet. Raw eggs can use serious health problems with your pet as it can lead to Salmonella. Salmonella symptoms is poisoning can include diarrhea, lethargy and vomiting.
Also raw egg contains Enzyme called Avidin. Enzyme can also decrease the absorption of the B vitamin which is very important to your pets health This can also cause hair coat and skin problems.
Chocolate
Can my cat eat Chocolate? NO WAY!
Your pet should stay away from chocolate. Even though us humans loves our chocolate. It is not suitable for a kitty's.
  • Chocolate contains toxic substance called Theobromine.  Eating chocolate can lead to seizures, irregular heat rhythm, tremors and death.
  • Please avoid giving your pet any form of chocolate as it can be very dangerous. 
  • White chocolate is ls dangerous but its a good idea to stay away from all.

Avocado

Is it safe for my cat to eat Avocado? NO WAY

Your pet will mostly likely not die from tasting avocado. But it can cause distress to them. Persin is a toxin that is in avocados. Which can cause discomfort to your pet. Best to steer clear.  However, avocados are only mildly toxic to cats unless they eat a high amount. 

  • Toxicity can cause vomiting and diarrhea. However some cats can be more seriously affected such as kittens, seniors and cats that have existing health issues.
  • Please seek medical advise asap if your pet experiences difficulty in breathing or swallowing with high fever or rapid heartbeat. As avocados can be dangerous if they eat or chew on a large chunk.  

Candy

Is it safe for my cat to eat sweets? NO WAY!

  • Sweets contain very high levels of sugar, your pet doesn't have the digestie system to easily digest sugars. Best to keep away!
  • Can cause obesity which can turn into diabetes in the future
  • Sugar is not toxic for cats
  • Not good for your pets teeth

 


Not recommended

Milk
Can my adult can drink milk? NOT REALLY!
Even though we love to show care to our pets the answer is NO for Adult cats they shouldn't drink milk however, it can be okay for kittens.
  • Adult cats are lactose intolerant.
  • Adult cats have difficulties in processing dairy products since they don't have enough lactose enzyme which pretty much breaks down the lactose in milk.
  • Unfortunately your cat can experience diarrhea and stomach upset. You can also pop to your pet store and grab some lactose-free milk.

Dog food

Can my cat eat dog food? NOT REALLY!

  • Dog food has not been tailored to meet cats requirements as it doesn't enough protein or fats that cats require in their diet. 
  • Amino acid taurine is essential in a cats diet, dog food lacks these important benefits  

Corn

Can my cat eat corn? NOT REALLY!

Corn is in many cat foods already such as can food or dry food. 

  • Corn is not dangerous for cats
  • Only should be eaten in moderation
  • Corn severely lacks amino acids
  • Does not provide appropriate protein source for your pet 
  • Corn can cause allergic reaction can involve constant scratching, sneezing, vomiting, coughing, wheezing and diarrhea (stop immediately and seek medical treatment)

Bacon

Is it safe for my cat to eat Bacon? NOT REALLY!

  • Bacon is safe for your pet however too much bacon can be harmful and make your cat ill.
  • Bacon is pretty fattening and contains a of sodium too as your cat gets older with age and stay indoors more often exercise may be an issue. Pet owners need to be careful regarding nutrition plans to counteract lack of movement and exercise
  • Can cause upset stomach or vomiting

Eating too much bacon can cause health conditions:

  • Obesity 
  • Dehydration (Too salty)
  • High blood pressure
  • Clogged blood vessels

Liver

Is it safe for my cat to eat liver? NOT REALLY!

  • Liver is a great source of protein, iron and other vitamins
  • Liver has very high levels of vitamin A, it has a high fat soluble that builds up fat unhealthily cells in the body. (Cats shouldn't eat too much liver as it can cause a dangerous imbalance of vitamin A  and lead to a condition called Hypervitaminosis A



 


In Moderation

Tuna

Can my cat eat tuna? Yes but just a little!

Tuna flavored cat food is fine but it has to be in moderation as tuna has a strong taste and smell so it can cause an addiction to your pet. This can result to your pet refusing to eat other foods that may be beneficial for them health wise. Tuna also can lean to poisoning due to containing mercury if your kitty consumes large amounts. Also oiled packs of tune can cause a terrible health condition called Steatitis which is known as yellow fat disease. 

Yogurt

Can my cat eat yogurt? Yes but just a little!

  • Yes you can in a tiny potion. Cats do not process lactose, an enzyme that breaks down lactose
  • Unfortunately dairy products can cause discomfort on the tummy to your kitty and this also implies to dogs too
  • Kittens can process loctose slightly better whilst drinking from their mothers milk but as they get older it makes it harder to process
